"We planned a mystery weekend for eight in Central Hawke's Bay,
our destination for the night being Gwavas Garden Homestead.

We were greeted outside the door of this beautiful and historic home, conducted  to our newly refurbished rooms and, after thorough inspection of each room (we secured the four poster bed), retired to the drawing room for drinks and canapes.

This was followed by a lovely meal. accompanied by fine wine, much laughter (our hosts joined us for the meal) and, totally replete, we adjourned to the billard room, where those who were still able played a game of pool; the others retiring to bed, to dream the night away encased in beautiful linen.

Breakfast was served in the family kitchen; our hostess supplying us with a beautiful breakfast complete with waffles and maple syrup.

A tour of the gardens and adjoining bush was undertaken by our hosts' father whose extensive knowledge was appreciated by all, followed by a finger lunch (equally superb) before we reluctantly departed, with the undertaking by us all to return at the earliest possible time.

We would recommend Phyllida and Stuart and their stately home as the complete weekend indulgence away from the worries of the world, fine dining, very comfortable bedrooms and most convivial company.
